What accommodation is available in Beijing?
Students at mmMandarin live all over Beijing, and there is no need to live directly next door to the school. For those that want our help finding accommodation, we are able to provide assistance.
Types of accommodation available?
There are many options available for students who will be studying at our school.
We have a number of local families who are interested in having foreigners live with them. Each homestay family is unique and will come with different requirements, so please get in touch and we will try to match you to a family who are suited to your needs.
Some families are more hands-off than others, so it helps if you let us know a bit about what you are looking for. Some families may ask you to help them tutor their children (and/or parents) in English as part of the homestay, so please let us know if this is something you're willing to do.
Some homestays provide meals, some homestays provide cultural events, so please let us know what you are looking for.
The majority of our students will be staying in shared apartments around Beijing. Rents in Beijing can vary quite significantly, depending on the area where you would like to live, but in the areas around our school, you should expect to pay between 3500 yuan and 4500 yuan for a room in a shared apartment with one or two other housemates.
Most apartments in the area are of good quality and will have comfortable living areas, kitchen, and bathroom.
Private apartments obviously cost a bit more than a shared one. Prices normally range between 6000 yuan and 8000 yuan per month, and particularly luxurious apartments can sometimes be over 10,000 yuan per month.
Apartments come in different shapes and sizes and may be an apartment in an apartment block, or a traditional Beijing hutong or courtyard. We'll have to write an entire article on their differences because there is not enough space here, but suffice to say, apartments are usually significantly more modern.
Hotels and Airbnb
Short term students sometimes stay in hotels, and Airbnb in China actually has some good deals for students looking for longer term accommodation.
